During the 2014-2015 flu season, 95% of hospital healthcare workers in the region were immunized, according to the 2014-2015 flu report. This is an improvement over 90% from the 2013-2014 flu season.
The annual report is a product of the Healthcare Worker Flu Immunization Program, which was created in 2006 to evaluate the effectiveness of immunization programs at local hospitals. In 2009, the Workgroup presented a recommendation to the GCHC Membership to support the requirement for each healthcare worker to be immunized annually for seasonal flu.
A goal was established to continually increase healthcare worker immunizations in the region at healthcare facilities. The percentage of health care workers receiving flue immunizations has improved steadily since 2006, when just 51.6% of health care workers were immunized.
