Volunteers from The Health Collaborative staff participated in the first annual “Collab-O-Lab,” or day of community service, on October 6 in order to give back to the United Way partners that make a difference in our community every day. They spent the morning working at three sites:

  • The Giving Fields (FreeStore FoodBank partner): a farm in Melbourne, KY. Staff worked on weeding, harvesting, landscaping.
  • SideStreams Foundation/500 Gardens (partner of Lighthouse Youth Services): an urban gardening project in Madisonville, with raised-bed gardens located at & near at Lighthouse Community School.
  • Life Learning Center: a project in Covington, KY to thoroughly clean a room they plan to use as their food pantry, and prep it for painting. Staff also sorted & hung donated clothing.

After getting their hands dirty, Collab-O-Lab’ers gathered at the socially-conscious¬†Wooden Cask Brewery in Newport, KY to raise a glass and learn about a volunteer opportunity with another United Way partner program: ProKids’ CASA.
