Gen-H Spotlight: First Annual Health Collaborative 5K “Health Prance”

One of the silliest and most improbable fitness crazes to sweep the internet in recent years is “Prancercise,” which, according to the website, is defined as: “A springy, rhythmic way of moving forward, similar to a horse’s gait and ideally induced by elation.” While we don’t have any horses on staff at The Health Collaborative, we are all about movement and elation. And when they meet up at the intersection of fun and healthy, it’s ON!

On Thursday, June 9, The Health Collaborative held its first annual 5K prance/run/walk in the neighborhood surrounding its Norwood offices.  Gold stars go to Judy Bradford, Healthcare Systems and Integration Analyst, and Diane Wicktora, Customer Service Liaison, for organizing and planning the entirely staff-led event.

“We really wanted to do something a little different from the usual workplace health challenges,” says Wicktora. “We didn’t expect staff to actually ‘prance’ out there, but the idea made things even more fun and gave us something to laugh about while planning and running together.” Bradford adds, “A huge thank you to Road ID (@RoadID) for donating the race bibs and gift cards!”

20 staff members braved the heat and conquered the streets on Thursday afternoon with plenty of water and sunscreen in tow. A good time was had by all – not to mention all the health benefits of walking and running, such as reduced risk of hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes, and better cardiovascular health. Go team – and prance on!
