Sara Bolton

Six years ago, The Health Collaborative caught Sara’s attention. She was drawn to how the organization was stimulating meaningful improvement in the health of the people of Greater Cincinnati. As a graduate student focused on Health Policy in the Public Health Program at the University of Cincinnati, Sara was especially interested in how payment reform was unfolding after the passage of the Affordable Care Act. With encouragement from one of her UC professors, who is also The Health Collaborative’s CEO, Craig Brammer, Sara began interning and was soon hired on after graduation. She’s now leading Operations for the Programs & Services division, managing large-scale improvement initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.

“I feel extremely lucky that my work is helping to impact the local healthcare community, paving the way for national improvements,” says Sara. “I am part of a team that is helping to change how primary care will be reimbursed across the country. That is incredibly motivating.”
For Sara, The Health Collaborative is unique in a number of ways. “I think our strongest asset is our neutrality, which enables us to act as trusted advisors to our members. Conversations can happen here that wouldn’t happen otherwise. Our hardworking team views the healthcare landscape through multiple lenses, enabling us to anticipate and support emerging changes in the most constructive way.”

She says The Health Collaborative serves as a forum for hospitals, health systems, post-acute providers, and others to get the right information, at the right time to engender meaningful discussions. “Our members will always have their own needs to consider, but our organization is able to help them consider additional perspectives so we arrive at a balanced result. In the end, the community wins.”
Outside of her professional life, Sara is looking forward to spending her summer playing outside with her two boys, and teaching her toddler how to ride a bike. She loves cooking and exercise, taking walks, and visiting the park with her kids. And when we need recommendations for a summer reading list, Sara’s the go-to – she is an avid reader. One of her all-time favorites is 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
