TAP MD is The Health Collaborative’s physician regional pipeline program for high school students.
It is part of our larger work under the umbrella of Healthcare Workforce Innovation.
TAP MD is a program designed to help talented high school students “tap” into their potential to fulfill careers in medicine. Students apply in the fall of their junior year and the program runs on a calendar year (from January of junior year through December of senior year of high school). 190 students have graduated from the annual program since 2011, and in 2017 we welcome 48 students from throughout Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana.
Students attend monthly+ experiences throughout the year and are exposed to a variety of specialties, practice settings, information about medical school, and more. To enter this competitive career exploring program, students must be academically strong, motivated, mature, dependable, and have a positive attitude. The program has an ultimate goal for over 50% of our students to pursue a career in medicine after the program.
For the last four years, the TAP MD program has had a physician champion, Tayyab S. Diwan MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of the Transplant Fellowship Program at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute. We thank him for his crucial role in helping students find opportunities & providing them with our kick-off experience each year!
Additional thanks to our 2016 TAP MD Healthcare Partners: Atrium Medical Center, Center for Respite Care, The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Center for Simulation and Research, Dearborn County Hospital, TriHealth, UC Health – University of Cincinnati Medical Center and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. An extra special thanks to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for also being a financial sponsor.
Please Note: This is a temporary page for TAP MD students and families to access information during the program’s transition into a larger Healthcare Workforce Innovation initiative of The Health Collaborative. Watch for more information soon!
