Damon Mays-Jones

The Health Collaborative recently welcomed Damon Mays-Jones from the University of Cincinnati as the newest member of our Infrastructure team.

As our Infrastructure co-op, Damon has been working with the team to help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes for internal and external customers, providing network administration, server/storage administration, and application support.

We asked Damon to take a few minutes to help us get to know him better.

Q: Hey there, Damon! Can you start by telling us a little about your background?
A: I am currently a student at the University of Cincinnati. I am in the accelerated program getting my bachelor and master’s degree at the same time. Some previous roles that I’ve had include working at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in their Clinical Engineering Department, working for Apple as an Apple Reseller Specialist, and Help Desk Tech for the University of Cincinnati.

Q: What’s your favorite stress-relieving activity outside of the office, and why?
A: My favorite stress-relieving activity outside of work is shopping and working on my music. I like to work on my music when I’m not at work as music is my biggest passion and it’s another way that I express myself. I love to shop because I view my clothes as a form of self-expression, and I just like spending money.

Q: What is your favorite Netflix or Hulu show?
A: My favorite Netflix show would have to be Altered Carbon. It’s my favorite because it takes place in the future and it keeps you on the edge of your seat and is full of action. For me personally that makes a good show.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up as a child?
A: When I was a child, I really wanted to be an engineer. But when I got in college, I realize that wasn’t the right path for me and decided to pursue a degree/career in cybersecurity.

Q: What was the first concert you ever went to?
A: The first concert that I ever went to was a Beyoncé concert in Chicago.

Q: What are your favorite songs from your teenage years that you still rock out to when nobody is listening?
A: Some songs from my teenage years that I still rock out to are; “Holiday” by Green Day, “Phresh Off the Runway” by Rihanna, “The Motto” by Drake, and “Déjà vu” by Beyoncé.

Q: What is one thing on your bucket list?
A: One thing on my bucket list is to go to Japan. I am going there in March of 2021 and I am beyond excited. I have always wanted to go to Japan to experience the culture, the food, and take in the architecture. But the biggest reason is because, I want a tebori tattoo (a tattoo that is done using a wooden bamboo stick that is tipped with needles).

Q: If you were a superhero, what would you want your superpower to be?
A: My superpower would be the ability to control the weather. The things I could do with that would be limitless, and it just seems like a pretty cool ability to have.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: I see myself working in a lead forensic analyst position.

Q:  So far what is your favorite part about your job?
A: My favorite part about my job is that there is always something new to learn, and nothing is ever the same day to day.

Q: Are you in any extracurricular activities at UC?
A: As of the beginning of March I will be a member of NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers).
