Winners of the 2017 Hoxworth Blood Drive Awards have been announced!

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is literally the life-blood of the Greater Cincinnati community, collecting more than 80,000 units of blood annually from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Founded in 1938, it serves 31 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Every day, 300 blood donors and 40 platelet donors are needed to help save lives in our local community.

Hoxworth partners with The Health Collaborative each year to present the Annual Blood Drive Awards. All hospitals participating in the blood drive program are eligible to win, and most – but not all – elect to participate. The awards will be presented at the 2017 Inspire | Healthcare dinner and awards celebration planned for November 1.

“The partnership Hoxworth enjoys with The Health Collaborative and our area hospitals is particularly meaningful because they know firsthand the necessity of a readily available blood supply,” said Chris Nare, Hoxworth’s Associate Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Michael Schwebler and Tom Fuller congratulate Jill on her special recognition.

There are three award categories:

  • Award of Distinction: Each year, hospitals are assigned goals of blood units to collect. The Award of Distinction is given to the hospital that exceeded its individual goal by the highest margin across the community. The Award of Distinction this year goes to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital as they collected 293 individual blood units, far surpassing their goal of 180 units.
  • Most Improved Award: The Most Improved Award is a simple comparison of which hospital improved most over its previous year’s blood collection effort. This year’s Most Improved Award will be presented to Summit Behavioral Healthcare, which collected 42 blood units in 2017 vs. only 15 blood units in 2016.
  • Blood Drive Coordinator of the Year Award: The Blood Drive Coordinator of the Year highlights the person (or team) that went above and beyond to help with their individual hospital’s blood drive campaign, demonstrating outstanding leadership in blood drive coordination. The 2017 Blood Drive Coordinator of the Year is Jill Waters, Laboratory Manager at Dearborn County Hospital. Jill was selected due to her incredible energy, enthusiasm, and support of the Hoxworth Blood Drive program.

Please join The Health Collaborative Executive Team and staff in congratulating all 2017 Hoxworth Blood Drive Award Winners! Their commitment to saving lives through the collection of blood & blood components, and other blood services, makes a difference by enhancing the health and well-being of patients in our community.
